Drying at higher temperatures, however, resulted in losses of essential oil yield. In contrast, solar and sun drying significantly degraded curcumin and therefore adversely affected the color of dried products. Although, all conditions of drying resulted in volatile oil losses of 18–36 %, different drying conditions did not affect the obtained oil compositions. In addition, it was found that the dried sample from the hot air dryer and the greenhouse solar dryer exhibited slightly higher antioxidant capacities than those from sun drying. For this analysis, local weather condition such as solar radiations, atmospheric temperature, wind speed and humidity of air were collected. The solar dryer is designed with drying chamber using six numbers of trays at upper, middle and lower part of chamber using dimensions as 57 cm × 58 cm , 57 cm × 90 cm and 57 cm × 111 cm , respectively.
Also the drying kinetic of crops has been fitted with ten drying rate models given by researchers. A new drying rate model is also obtained which gives a very close fit with experimental drying rate. The average values of convective heat transfer coefficients for dryer with ETC are 153%, 3.8% and 305.4% higher than the dryer without ETC for tomato, ginger and bottle gourd respectively. The drying time in case of dryer with ETC for tomato, ginger and bottle gourd is 9, 12 and 6 h respectively less than the dryer without ETC.
It was observed that the thermal efficiency of the dryer increases with increase in mass flow rate, which varied between 26% and 65%. The use of heat storage system increased the drying time by 2 h after sunshine hour. Chandrasekar et al. experimented the drying process of grapes using the hot exhaust air received from the condenser unit of split air-conditioner.
Also, the experimental results showed that using aluminum wool inside the tubes led to improve in the thermal performance and 30% reduction in drying time. Average SEC values at higher and lower mas flow rates for modified dryer were found as 1.39 and 1.82 kWh/kg respectively. Also, these values were obtained for unmodified dryer as 1.94 and 2.25 kWh/kg, respectively. In the present work, thermodynamic analysis of a natural convection dryer with and without sensible heat storage material has been studied.
Decide whether to store the ginger in the freezer or refrigerator. If you know you'll be using the ginger again soon, then you should just store it in the refrigerator to make it easy to use, peel, or mince the ginger in the future. Ginger can last in the refrigerator for up to three weeks, so if you know you won't be using it before then, then you should Continous Ginger Slice Dryer store it in the freezer. To find the freshest ginger, look for ginger with a fresh and spicy fragrance and a nice smooth skin. The rhizomes of the ginger should feel heavy and firm in your hands. Avoid any ginger that's wrinkled or feels a bit soft, or you'll be eating ginger that's already on the decline.Avoid any ginger that is wet, moist, or moldy.
Ginger is a perennial plant which contains a variety of nutrients and is often used as a spice, especially in daily diet. In addition to dietary fiber and volatile compounds, it is also rich in non-volatile biologically active substances such as gingerols, shogaols and zingerone, which have good antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effects . Fresh gingers contain about 93% water and are perishable and sprouted during storage, which resulted in the decrease of the nutrients and storage quality (Olusoga, Olakunle, & Batola, 2016). In order to prevent this, drying of the ginger becomes highly essential.
The initial moisture content in the fresh ginger is 80 % and after drying for 2 days without thermal energy storage material moisture available finally is 9 % & weight is 288 gm. A similar experiment was carried out for ginger Drying with thermal energy storage material in a solar dryer final moisture measured is 8 % & the weight measured is 251 gm. By doing the proper literature survey Atlas wax SF 42 material is selected as energy storage material.
A combustor design is started from the requirement of thermal drying energy and the drying time whereas the fuel is also calculated for supplying energy to the drying process and increasing the drying air temperature. Principle of combustion is used to calculate and determined the suitable combustor capacity and the drying chamber for producing products in each batch of the manufacture products . Ginger is the plentiful agricultural product that available in Thailand and it also an ingredient of more instant food manufacture, some medicine and some beverage product. There is high income of the export from the large consumption in many countries that trading this product from Thailand.
The electric appliance has the functions of setting temperature, timer timing, constant temperature control, over-temperature alarm, setting dehumidification time, etc. Try this simple, yet effective homemade cough remedy you can whip up with everyday kitchen ingredients. Slicing—To thinly slice the ginger, use a sharp knife or a mandolin. A mandolin makes the process go quickly, but be sure to wear a good safety cutting glove to protect yourself from serious injury. I prefer using a cutting glove over the mandolin guard for better control.
These graters have raised edges which stop the ginger from slipping off the sides. Naturally, they never rust and they can be used for other foods such as chocolate or nutmeg. If you know you'll be using a small chunk of the ginger soon, then you can cut off a chunk and refrigerate it and then freeze the rest of the ginger for use in the more distant future. If you want your ginger to last as long as possible, then you have to pick out the freshest ginger root and use it shortly after purchasing.
Moreover, nine mathematical models have been used to describe the drying curves. The best mathematical models which represented treated and witness thyme were Wang-Singh and Midilli-Kucuk models. Hence, the characteristic drying curve of the pretreated product was determined. Health consciousness has been increasing gradually in the entire world during the last three decades. Naturally and artificially produced medicines are consumed by the people for curing short and long-term diseases. Many natural medicines and some of the artificial medicines are produced using medicinal herbs and plants.
Apart from all these benefits, ginger also improves cholesterol levels, helps with heart health and improves cognitive functions. Anti-emetic and nausea properties – this spice has been in use for reducing nausea caused by poor eating habits, morning sickness, motion sickness or even chemotherapy. Better metabolism – when your body has a high metabolic rate, you will be able to lose weight or at least not put on excess weight. Most ginger ales do have at least a small amount of ginger in them.
And even if the health benefits of ginger ale may be questionable, there is little doubt that the fizzy soda is both delicious and refreshing. Plus, it makes an excellent addition to cocktails like Pimm's Cup and classic mocktails such as the Shirley Temple. The cost of a Simple Food Dehydrator with 8 Trays and 40KG batch load is Rs. 1.5 lacs while a Commercial Food Dehydrator costs Rs. 4 Lacs with Doors and 32 Trays. However, the price of a conveyor belt food dryer is around Rs. 8,00,000 Lacs and an Infrared Food dryer costs Rs. 12,00,000 Lacs. Food Dryers and Food Dehydrators are custom built for each customer based on the requirements and needs.
Consequently, it provides heat exchange in both faces of the panel PV which helps to cool the photovoltaic cells and to carry the thermal energy to the drying room. What make this prototype important and original is that it provides an economic gain for farmers who previously used natural drying techniques. It grants them the chance to conserve the dried tomatoes for longer periods and to reduce the loss of crops. Furthermore, it provides more electrical energy supplies for the rural areas. Tomatoes were divided into two trays and dried with the forced convection mixed solar dryer. After that, a comparison was established with a naturally dried sample.
